Ralph came up with this design when his children were showing some stubborn Limousin steers. Seeing some cable hanging in the horse stables, he configured the halter somewhat like that used in horse training. The cable halters made a huge difference in the steers attitude and what was once an unshowable steer, in three weeks, went to the San Antonio Livestock Show and placed the calf in the Limi show. Forward to 2012, when Ralph's grandson and Amy's son, Gage Spence started showing steers at the age of 8. Gage was so little and so overpowered by the 1300 lb steer he was showing, Ralph decided to build a halter for Gage's calf, Buckshot. After a few days, Buckshot led like a champ for Gage and he proved it in the showring in Houston placing 2nd in the heavyweight Simbrah class. Amy and Gage were receiving so many inquiries as to what they were using, we went ahead and started designing a halter that was fully adjustable to use on any size calf. After many prototypes and testing, Ralph came up the current model. In early 2016, we applied for design and utility patents, in which we have received patent pending numbers for both (PATENT PENDING NOS. 29565193 & 62/349,223). Upon request, we have also added a sheep/goat halter to our line, as well as cables sized for Mini Herefords.
Our mission and goal is to produce a quality product that not only makes it easier to humanely train and control a show steer, heifer, bull, lamb, or goat, at home and if needed at a show, but to produce a product that makes training and showing these animals SAFER for the animal, and most importantly SAFER for our youth showing these animals, and the crowds of young & old attending & supporting our stock shows. It is not our intention, nor has it ever been our intention, that our cable halter replace the leather show halter.
